Space Planning and Common Sizes

Space Planning and Sizes

A-WALL modular buildings are pre-engineered to meet the specific needs of your unique application. Here you will find helpful information regarding space planning for your A-WALL in-plant building. Whether you are creating an enclosure for personnel, equipment or a manufacturing process, this information will assist you in choosing the appropriate size. If you prefer, our experienced staff can suggest the size and configuration appropriate for your project.

In-Plant Offices or Personnel Enclosures

The most efficient way to choose the size of your A-WALL in-plant office or personnel enclosure is to consider the number of people that will occupy each room, and the furnishings needed within the rooms. With this information, you can create a rough layout that will dictate the space required.

However, if you are in the preliminary planning stages, an estimate can be made of your space requirements. The estimates provided below are average space requirements for each area listed based on the Workspace Utilization and Allocation Benchmark by The U.S. General Services Administration. These estimates can be individually adjusted upward to provide a more spacious layout or can be adjusted downward to provide a more efficient use of office space.

  • Lunch/Break Room (75 sq. ft. + 25 sq. ft. per person seated)

In-Plant Buildings for Equipment or a Process

There are many factors to consider when designing a room to enclose either an individual piece of equipment or a complete manufacturing process. These enclosures must be designed to not only accomodate the equipment, but also any operators, controls (panels or computers), material handling equipment (rack, conveyors, etc.) and raw materials. Other considerations may include:

  • Wall Panel Surfaces (germacidal wash-down, ESD control, durability)
  • Enclosure Access (larger doors, removable wall sections, conveyor openings)
  • Equipment Access (adequate access area in enclosure for service)
  • Temperature and Humidity Requirements (creature comfort or close tolerance)
  • Air Cleanliness Requirements (special filtration, differential pressure)
  • Sound Control (isolate a noise source or create an ambient noise barrier)
